After volatility, benchmark indices gained strength in last couple of hours of trade on Tuesday, with the Nifty ending above 8200 level ahead of the upcoming policy meeting of Federal Reserve that will begin tonight. Positive European cues and short covering in index heavyweights helped the market recover previous day's losses. November retail inflation data will be closely watched, especially after demonetization.
The BSE Sensex jumped 182.58 points to 26697. The benchmark indices opened at 26607.65, touched an intra-day high of 26724.97 and low of 26494.23.and the NSE Nifty rose 51 points to 8221. It opened at 8,196.15 points, hitting a high of 8,228.85 and low of 8,155.80.
The India VIX (Volatility) index was down 1.66% at 15.9225. The Indian Rupee Closed lower by 12 paise at 67.54 per Dollar. About 1278 shares have advanced, 1309 shares have declined and 192 shares are unchanged on the BSE.
The BSE Mid-cap closed at 12341 and Small-cap indices closed at 12222, both closing marginally down while the broader markets underperformed benchmarks, with the Mid cap falling 0.4 percent. In Commodity market, Gold slipped 107 points to 27,559 and Silver lost 170 points to 41,554.
Top Gainers are Tata Motors, Adani Ports, Wipro, Axis Bank, Infosys.
Top Losers are BHEL, GAIL, Tata Steel, Lupin, HUL.
Experts say they expect the Fed rate hike of 25 basis points in December policy but the more important factors to watch out for would be Trump policies and US dollar move.
