Equity benchmarks ended rangebound session on a flat note Friday but retained weekly gain. Investors awaited RBI policy and corporate earnings due next week, after digesting Union Budget. They also maintained caution ahead of assembly elections in five states, starting with Punjab on Saturday.
The BSE Sensex gained 13.91 points at 28240.52 and the Nifty jumped up 6.70 points at 8740.95 while the BSE Mid-cap and Small-cap indices gained 0.6 percent and 1 percent respectively. In Commodity Market, Gold dropped 21 points to 28,829 while Silver lost 166 points to 41,635.
Over all 1635 shares advanced against 1173 declining shares on the BSE. The Indian Rupee Closed higher by 7 paise at
67.30 per Dollar.
Asian markets finished mixed as of the most recent closing prices. Nikkei 225 hiked 4 points at 18918, Hang Seng lost 55 points to 23129 and Shanghai Composite closed down 18 points to 3140.
Bank of Baroda, Tech Mahindra, Cipla, BHEL, Bharti Infratel, SBI, Coal India and Dr Reddy's Labs surged 1.6-5 percent while Tata Motors, ICICI Bank, Tata Steel, Reliance Industries and HDFC were under pressure.
