Equity benchmarks continued to hold morning gains, with the Nifty hovering around 8950 level. Reliance contributed 21 points to the Nifty’s gains, thereby holding the market with its rally. The Sensex hiked 179.04 points at 29011.49, while the Nifty gained 52 points at 8949.
The market breadth was narrow after 1,430 shares advanced, 1,131 shares declined, while 156 shares remained unchanged.
Asian cues were weak with Shanghai Composite Index rising 15 points at 3233, while Hong Kong’s Hang Seng advanced 66 points at 23619. However, Japan’s Nikkei felled 90 points as the yen jumped in response to North Korea firing four ballistic missiles, three of which landed in Japanese waters.
