Indian benchmark indices closed marginally lower after weak opening. The BSE Sensex was slipped 130.87 points at 29,575.74 and the NSE Nifty declined 16.85 points to 9,181.45 amid consolidation, dragged by Infosys, Reliance Industries and HDFC. Market breadth turned positive with 992 advances, 669 declines and 299 unchanged stocks on NSE, reflecting a positive bias.
However, the broader markets outperformed benchmarks as the BSE Mid-cap and Small-cap indices gained 0.6 percent each on positive breadth. About three shares advanced for every two shares falling on the exchange. The Indian Rupee closed lower by 27 paise at 64.55 per Dollar.
