The BSE Sensex was closed up 287.40 points or 0.97 percent at
29,943.24 and the Nifty hiked 88.65 points or 0.96 percent
at 9,306.60, backed by banking and financials and FMCG stocks. The broader markets also participated in the rally, with Nifty Mid-cap at
record closing high, up 0.8 percent despite balanced market breadth. The BSE Small Cap gained 89 points at 15379 and BSE Mid-Cap jumped up 154 points at 14780.
In European market, London’s FTSE rose 0.29 percent, Paris CAC 40 gained 0.23 percent and Frankfurt’s DAX lost 0.05 percent.
F&O Expiry: Markets took to short-coverings ahead of the expiry of
April series F&O contract, which helped boost market sentiment.
Top Gainers: Bharti Infratel, Axis Bank, BPCL, M&M, Hero Motocorp.
Top Losers: Tata Power, Cipla, Aurobindo Pharm, TCS, NTPC.
