The Equity benchmark indices closed higher as banks recovered from the previous session's losses on hopes of a pickup in credit growth following cuts in lending rates. The BSE Sensex closed with a gain of 48 points at 26,643. It opened at 26,616, touched an intra-day high of 26,724 and low of 26,488. The NSE Nifty ended with a gain of 13 points at 8,192. It opened at 8,196, hit a intraday high of 8,219 and low of 8,149.
The India VIX index up 0.8% to 15.96. Out of 1098 shares have advanced 438 shares have declined and 95 shares are unchanged on the BSE. The Rupee closed down by 8 paise at 68.30 per dollar.
All BSE sectors are closed with positive leads. The BSE Mid-cap index climbed 0.61 percent and Small-cap 1 percent as about two shares advanced for every share falling on the exchange. In Commodity market, Gold decline 106 points to 27,464 while Silver gained 155 points at 39,291.
