Equity benchmarks ended the session on a flat note, after witnessing a volatile trading day as the Street swung higher by 150 points, before consolidating.The Sensex closed 2.78 points at 29921.18, while the Nifty lost 9.75 points at 9313.80. The market breadth was negative as 1,358 shares advanced against a decline of 1,546 shares, while 153 shares were unchanged.
The Indian Rupee closed higher by 3 paise at 64.21 per Dollar.
The broader markets outperformed benchmarks as the BSE Mid-cap and Small-cap indices gained more than 0.3 percent despite weak breadth. European markets were moderately higher as investors reacted to fresh earnings and awaited the upcoming French presidential vote.
