Equity benchmarks closed flat with a positive bias amid consolidation Monday as investors awaited January retail inflation data due later today. Last batch of corporate earnings this week and assembly elections of five states will also closely watched.
The Sensex hiked 17.37 points at 28351.62. NSE Nifty managed to close above 8800 level, up 11.50 points at 8805. Over all 553 advances, 1100 declines and 276 unchanged stocks on NSE, reflecting strong negative bias floating in the market. The Indian Rupee closed lower by 13 paise at 67.01 per Dollar.
In Broader markets closed in negative territory. BSE Mid-cap index closed at 13417.95 levels, down by 50.46 points. BSE Small-cap index closed at 13523.65 levels, down by 77.66 points. In Commodity market, Gold declined 9 points to 29,164 while Silver gained 131 points at 42,728.
