Equity benchmarks ended range bound session moderately lower as the Nifty failed to hold 8800 level, dragged by Tata Motors post disappointing earnings. However, buying in telecom and oil stocks arrested losses. The Sensex down 12.31 points at 28339.31 and the Nifty declined 12.75 points to 8792. The Rupee closed lower by 6 paise at 66.95 against US Dollar. About 1785 shares declined against 1048 advancing shares on the exchange.
The broader markets under performed benchmarks, with the BSE Mid-cap falling 0.6%, Small-cap slipped 0.63% to 13438 on weak breadth.
In Commodity market, Gold closed up 99 points at 29,120 and Silver gained 130 points at 42,552.

Hang Seng lost 8 points to 23703 and Shanghai Composite jumped up 2 points at 3218.
