Equity benchmarks as well as broader markets closed range bound session on a flat note Thursday as investors maintained cautious stance ahead of exit poll results for assembly elections later today and Federal Reserve policy meeting next week.
The Sensex hiked 27.19 points at 28,929.13 and the Nifty rose 2.70 points to 8,927 despite global weakness.The BSE Small-Cap declined 12 points to 13620 and BSE Mid-Cap slipped 28 points to 13399.
Overall 607 share have advanced, 932 share have declined and 71 share have remains unchanged on BSE. The Indian Rupee closed lower by 3 paise at 66.72 against US Dollar.
SBI, Maruti Suzuki, Axis Bank, Tata Motors and Asian Paints gained 1-1.5 percent while Dr Reddy's Labs, Adani Ports, ONGC, Wipro, GAIL and Tata Steel felled 1-5 percent.
